It’s more than just a trend wrapped around New Year’s Resolutions and the desire to go cold turkey after a holiday season of imbibing. Cutting back on alcohol, or cutting it out entirely, has become a whole wellness movement that extends well beyond January. With that has come the creation of booze-adjacent products that make it easier for bartenders to create concoctions that let alcohol-free folks feel like they are sipping something equally special. Here’s a roundup of Colorado restaurants and bars doing it up for Dry January and, in many cases, throughout the year. See the link below for recipes for a few of the cocktails mentioned.
Barcelona Wine Bar has a zero-proof Bees & Bays, a citrusy drink with lime, salted honey syrup and cardamom, tumbled with ice and topped with sparkling water and garnished with torched smoky bay leaves.
BurnDown’s mocktail menu includes the Slow Burn, a citrusy beverage with grapefruit, lime, jalapeno and maple, garnished with a Tajin rim. The Pineapple Crush has Seedlip 108, pineapple, mint, lime and soda water.
Chasing Rabbits can get the Lucky Bunny Foot mocktail with passion fruit puree, lemon, simple syrup and ginger beer.
Citizen Rail has created a menu of low and no-alcohol cocktails for January Sage 75, Herb & Flora Fee in Love and No-Groni, using Seedlip spirits comprise the alcohol-free options. And Sherry Cobbler, Rome with a View and 50/50 Martini are available in low ABV versions. During January $1 from each Seedlip cocktail (from the regular and non-alcoholic menu) is donated to CHOW (Culinary Hospitality Outreach & Wellness) to support hospitality worker wellness initiatives.
Deca + Bol has the Rehydrator mocktail with pomegranate, honey-aloe water, and tonic; and the Tropical State of Mind infused with citrus – lemon, lime, orange, passion fruit, jalapeno shrub, pineapple juice, and soda water.
Denver Milk Market’s Moo Mocktail lets guests pick their flavor from among the choices the bartenders have available.
Deviation Distilling always has a rotating mocktail menu that includes the Berry Blast with blackberries and raspberries, grapefruit sherbet and lime; Garden Party with cucumber, dill, sage and house lemon sherbet; and seven different alcohol-free mojitos ranging from Guava to Kiwi.
Devil’s Kitchen in Grand Junction observes Dry January with a Blackberry Mint Mule, Cucumber Lavender Collins and Strawberry Basil Fizz, each $7.
Halcyon’s Local Jones is serving cocktail and low-alcohol beverages throughout the month including Starve the Apothecary with juniper, matcha, lemon and honey and A Cultured Affair low-alcohol cocktail with Italicus Bergamot liqueur, black pepper vermouth, citrus and pistachio.
Jovanina’s Broken Italian has an AmericaN/A with a non-alcoholic vermouth and the St. Agrestis Amaro Falso, bottled n/a amaro soda.
Le Bilboquet is using seasonal ingredients to make their Rosemary Tonic and the Cerise, made with lavender, cherry bitters and lime juice.
My Neighbor Felix is serving up Horchata and Cucumber or Strawberry Aqua Frescas.
Noble Riot is featuring a wine-inspired n/a drink, the Buzzless Hibiscus Buzz with a house hibiscus cordial, grüvi prosecco and soda.
Nocturne has specialty n/a/ flights + bites. On Wed., Thu. or Sun., add a spirit-free flight to your bar reservation for $48 which pairs light bites and non-alcoholic drinks.
Noisette has three n/a options, including L’Abricot with Seedlip Grove, apricot black tea syrup, lime and tonic; Seasonal House Soda of pear verjus and lemon and Leitz Eins Zwei Zero, a sparkling non-alcoholic rose.
Point Easy has a mix of mocktails and n/a beers including the Free Spirit Spritz with verjus, hopped grapefruit, lemon and soda. Jason’s Waterfall has lemon, simple syrup, rosemary and citrus. There’s also a Phony Negroni, Spirit Free Cosmopolitan, Hazy IPA and red ale from Sober Carpentry Brewery.
Poka Lola Social Club lets the holidays run through January with their “No-No-No Alcoholic Drinks” lineup including The Bunny Slope with pear-cranberry shrub, citrus and soda and Cuddle in a Cup with bittersweet chocolate, cinnamon and cayenne. Year-round you can get the Nogroni and Zaba which features chicory, baking spice and ginger beer.
Restaurant Olivia has three offerings: Pom Pom has pomegranate, mint green tea, ginger, lemon and tonic; Sprtiz “ish” has apple-cinnamon tea, giffard aperitif and cororniu “zero”; and Clarified Milk Punch has Earl Grey, macadamia, blood orange and lemon.
Spice Trade Brewery + Kitchen is caring for your gut health while providing tasty drinks. They have the Cold Toddy with house-infused clove and honey water, lemon juice, a dash of bitters and cardamom with black tea sparkling water. The Spicy Strawberry Rita has agave syrup, lime juice, muddled cucumber and jalapeno and strawberry and elderberry vitamin boosted sparkling water. The Mystic Healer is made with house-infused ginger honey water, lemon juice, pomegranate juice and CBD ginger-cinnamon sparkling water with apple cider vinegar.
Super Mega Bien has the Chicha Morada with Peruvian purple corn, cinnamon, cloves, pineapple rinds and green apple and the Hierbas Tonic, house-made with cucumber, parsley, basil, lime juice and soda water.
Tamayo has a Non-Collins, a play on the Tom Collins, with Seedlip grove, strawberry, lemon, mint, and sparkling water. The Garden Grove has Seedlip garden, lime, basil cucumber and black pepper.
The Golden Mill always has n/a options but for 2024, they’ll have a rotating selection of n/a cocktails on top plus a rotating selection of both Happy Leaf Kombucha and High Altitude Kombucha flavors and can selections from Athletic Brewing. Look for their mocktail, a Kentucky Mule made with Spiritless Kentucky 74.
The Lookout at The Westin Riverfront has options with pretty names including Winter Thyme, Wanderlust Spritz, Haymeadow Shrub, and Colorado Sunset which has Seedlip Spiced, orange, simple syrup and soda water.
The Woods at The Source has the No Babysitter, Spa Day and Opening Credits which has muddled raspberry, lemon, honey and seltzer.
Three Saints Revival has two cocktails on their menu that are non-alcoholic: 24 Carrot Gold is made with carrot, ginger, cinnamon syrup, blood orange and nutmeg. Steep Dreams, featuring muddled blackberries and rosemary, chamomile and lavender, cardamom syrup, lemon juice, and Aquafaba has a deep purple color which happens to match the restaurant decor.
Toro by Chef Richard Sandoval offers up a Gorgeous Mocktail with blueberry simple syrup, lime juice and topped with soda and Sprite plus a twisted lime peel and blueberry garnish. They also have a Spiced Pear Mocktail with pear juice, ginger-infused honey syrup, lemon juice, soda and a garnish of candied ginger and lemon wheel.
